“And for me, that utterance
may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery
of the gospel.” Ephesians 6:19
The words of that verse have become a prayer of Pastor David Cannon since
he felt led to go into full time ministry back in 1977.
David Cannon was born in Georgia, but grew up in Hialeah, Florida. After
graduation from high school, he considered pursuing a career in forestry
but began finding his pursuit coming up empty. While on the college campus,
he was handed a Gideon Bible which he took home and began reading. After
months of reading through the New Testament, the message of God’s
forgiving grace being freely offered to all who would believe reached his
heart. It was in the privacy of his own room that he placed his total reliance
in Christ as his Savior, the only One who could forgive sins and give eternal
life.
Several years later, David found himself
enrolling in Colorado Bible College in Denver. There he received his degree
in Biblical Education plus obtained valuable experience in all areas of church
ministry. It was also at Colorado Bible College he met his wife, Lisa, and
the two were married in 1979.
In 1986, David, Lisa, and their two small children moved to Inverness, Florida,
where he founded the Calvary Bible Church. Their third child was born in Inverness,
and Pastor Cannon ministered at that church for 18 years. The church grew
strong and saw many people come to know the Lord. Then in 2003, Pastor Cannon
felt led of the Lord to accept a call to pastor Grace Bible Church in Palm
Bay, Florida.
At Grace Bible, Pastor Cannon began his work when the church was in the process
of selling their Port Malabar Campus (GBC’s home for over 40 years),
which resulted in rescheduling the different ministries and meetings, and
arranging a temporary place of worship until the building of the new worship
center in Bayside Lakes, Palm Bay was completed. In November , 2004, Grace
Bible Church celebrated the “Grand Opening” of new Grace Bible
Church facilities.
It is Pastor Cannon’s desire to see Grace Bible Church continue to reach
out to this new community and to boldly make known good news of God’s
saving grace.
